What does "xxxxxx" mean in an auctions listing?
I signed up for the site to purchase a Beretta hand gun and I noticed that out of the several auctions for the model I'm interested in that a few of them have "xxxxxx" in the title. I've also noticed that the said auctions useually have a lower priced "Buy it Now". Does this mean they have been refurbished or such? Most of the auction's also claim to be new in box so what's the deal? [xx(]

They usually put "xxxxxxx" in place of some of the digits of the serial number because they are paranoid (more or less)[:I]

There are many different reasons why people don't want to list the entire serial #.
Paranoia is certainly one of them. Some folks just don't like putting information on their guns on public display. Others think that "the government" might be able to use this information to come after them. And, some people see others doing it, & figure that there must be a good reason, even thought they don't know what it is.
I see one good reason: If the gun was stolen at one time, the previous owner can take legal action to recover it from the current owner, & the current owner will receive no compensation.

All of the above ... unless it is a 'Very Sexy' Custom job and then the "x's" are just a rating

How about a link to the gun in question?
Just copy and paste the URL.
And NIB? Both pistols I've bought here have been NIB. Love that lifetime warranty.

Ooops, I left out one other reason: STUPIDITY
And, there is no relationship between serial #s & anything else in an auction listing. Starting bids, reserves, "buy it now", etc are all a matter of personal preference, & usually have no bearing on the quality of the item listed.
Be aware that terms such as NIB, original, like new, untouched, etc are often misused. Some listings are just plain deceptive. You must be very cautious when buying ANY item, but especially guns, from someone you don't know. Ask questions before bidding, &, if you don't feel comfortable, don't bid.
