ABO service?
Has anybody sent a Tasco scope back to ABO for service. The web site says for 23 dollars they will repair or replace it. I called the company to make sure this was right. First off they made me feel very uncomfortable because you can barely understand them. Then from what I could make out, they were telling me that if the repairs cost more than 23 dollars they will let me know. So, I'm misunderstanding something. Either I misunderstood what the web site read or I misunderstood what the person was telling me. Or are they trying to pull a fast one and get your scope and sucker you for more money. i would pay 23 dollars to fix my scope. However I don't want to spend 23 dollars and then hear well it will take another 50 to fix it.

i believe the '$23' is a handling fee/return postage charge. world class and above scope 'should' be fixed free. lessor scopes could have additional charges added. 0 -
If you don't have one of the "Lifetime" warranty class scopes you probably don't want to mess w/ it because repair charges plus the $23 shipping and handling will can add up to be more than the scope is worth.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
We regret that Tasco Sales, Inc. has liquidated and stops their operations after providing us with almost half century of the high standard optics. For the loyal customers and friends who have used Tasco products for many years, ABO (USA) has made arrangements for all repair work to be done at the nominal cost of $23.00 to cover our handling and return shipping.
This was taken right from the web sight. Am i missing something here. You guys seem to think the 23 dollars is for the shipping and handling only also. I know that I'm dense sometimes, but doesn't that read all repair work to be done at the nominal cost of $23.00. Further more when you call the prerecorded messeage states repair or replace at their option. But when you finally speak to a human that doesn't seem to be the story, unless we misunderstood each other. I could barely understand a thing he said.0 -
I have used them at least three times in the last two years..I sent them 23 bucks and got a satisfactorily repaired scope back...No additional charges.. One was a Tasco World class 50mm obj. with the elevation turret completely torn out of the tube and the other one corroded in place... I got it back good as new.... One of the custom shop scopes I sent back took from 4/2003 'til 11/2003 to get fixed, but when I inquired, it was explained that the repair parts were on back order from Japan... I've been really satisfied with their service to me.... 0 -
Hi Jim, thanks for the replie. I also have a custom shop scope to send back.It appears to have dust on the inside of the lens. That is why I want to send it back. I can still use it, however if for 23 dollars I can have it fixed I would do it. I just didn't want to spend 23 dollars then hear from them they want another 50. What was wrong with your scope? Thanks 0 -
3 repairs in 2 years??!! That ought to tell you something about these scopes.

They have repaired a scope for me, but it was a "lifetime" warranty class scope. Good work, and reasonable turnaround time.
I have never asked for repairs to a non-Lifetime warranty scope so I can't say for sure, but, it is my understanding that they are saying they have taken over the warranty work and if you want it done it will cost you $23 shipping and handling.
Considering that english is not their first language they may not be properly conveying the message in their written web site info, or when you try and talk with them live.
You have a warranty covered scope, send it to them with written instructions to not repair if there will be additional charges. course you may end up out the $23 and the scope, but I've not heard anyone say that such a thing happened ... those I know of have had OK experiences with the outfit.
You asked the original question because you were uncomfortable, if your still that way you probably shouldn't do it.

Hey He Dog,
You need to read a little closer..There were three different scopes... Belonged to my customers...If one of my customers needs a scope repaired..I get it done for him..It's called customer service... Lack of customer service is one of the reasons many gunsmith operations fold.... The original poster's question did not concern the quality of scopes anyway, just how to get one fixed.....0
