a good mauser action, by that i mean one that is not soft or too brittle, might be strong enough, the magazine box is not long enough without major work and the feed rails would need a lot of opening up. i would go for one of the remington actions from brownells.however, i dont see where you will save any bucks in doing this , but that may not be an issue . my 2 cents

It's hard to beat a factory Remington 700 Sendero in .300 mag. They run something about $700 and you'll probably spend much more than that on a custom for little gain.

The 10mm - either you've got it, or you don't get it...

Best action I can think of would be a 1917 or P-14 Enfield or a Remington 30.
They're long enough, strong enough, and fairly reasonable to buy.
    One of my favorites is a .375 H+H on a 1917.

My suggestion is to find a sporterized 1917 and have it simply re-chambered to .300 Win Mag. I did this to one and have plans for 2 more.

    Your email's not working.

I have a Parker Hale Model 1200M which is built on what is or closely resembles a K98 Mauser action. It is a light rifle and shoots exceptionally well. with a 12 year old B&L 3-9x40 scope I can hold 3 shot groups at 2" at 200 yards. A better shooter would bo better. I have fired a few hundred rounds through the rifle over the past few years and it is as tight and accurate as it was when I first got it. I highly reccommend the 98 Mauser action it is an excellent choice. good luck.

another vote for the 700 remington.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Then why not just buy the 700 rem? I was kinda wanting to build a custom just to say i built. Always sounded fun to me.

Pick any 30-06 length Mauser action (the 300Win is the same length). The Mauser will probably need it's bolt face opened (cheap and easy), and they have been lenghtened a lot more than your looking to go (your talking about a new mag box, bolt stop/ejector and a little rail tuneing again not dificult or expensive on a Mauser. Can you tell I'm not a Rem fan?
Take a look at the CZ offerings if you like the Mauser style, there is a dealer in GA that sells on GB and he has the best prices in the country.
Shouldn't be any problems in CA, as far as I know they still consider bolt actions as being OK.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

that was my point,..build it on a 700rem action,...not just buy the whole gun.

To save yourself some time, trouble and money first decide if you want a push feed or a controlled round feed action. Once that is done, buy a good quality factory rifle already chambered in the round you want. There are issues involved in getting these large rounds(ultra mags, etc.) to fit and feed in the older actions like the mauser, etc. They can be made to work but it all costs money. The factory guns are very good these days and you might be satisfied with one as it is depending on your use.If your not happy then you can start upgrading bbl, stock, etc. and use the money you would have spent on gunsmithing labor on the old action for upgrades and sell the factory parts to recoup some of your investment.--- Just my two cents.........Good Luck.....[8D]
