Marlin 17VS feeding problems
I've got a 17VS with feeding problems. The mag fits loosely, which lets the round to hit the bottom of the chamber, instead of starting in properly. V-max ammo feeds alright most of the time, because the ballistic tip lets it ramp up into the chamber, but the CCI hollow points will not feed. Lifting up on the mag solves the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any adjustment or fitting I can perform to make it work properly, or should I ship it back to Marlin?

Do you have more than one mag? If the same problem exists with multiple mags, ship it (the rifle) back to Marlin. If you only have one mag, call Marlin, explain the problem and see if they will ship you out a replacement mag to test in the rifle. They have exc customer service and I am sure they will do whatever it takes to make the rifle right!

I only have the mag that came with the rifle. I'll give them a call and see if I can get some help. 0 -
agman1999, You really don't have a problem! If the VMax's feed ok, then shoot them! If you get the CCI's to feed properly, I'm betting they still won't shoot like the Hornady or Remington will! I have yet to find a 17HMR that would shoot the CCI's with the accuracy of the Hornady or the Remington! (so far about 20 different rifles and pistols!) Leave the CCI on the shelf!!! GHD 0 -
did it come from WAL-MART? 0 -
I do have a problem. The Hornady and Remington stuff feeds ok most of the time, but not as well as it should. It will try to jam once in awhile with Hornady ammo. I realize that the CCI ammo isn't as accurate, but it's good enough for some of the shooting that I do.
And for the smarta*& that made the comment about it coming from WalMart...I don't even buy toilet paper at WalMart.0 -
agman, Try another magazine and see if that makes any difference. The only time I've noticed any feeding problems with the Marlin is sometimes after inserting the clip, if it isn't "bottomed out" in the action then the first round may not feed properly. With the Savage 93 or the Strikeryou have to MAKE SURE to push those clips all the way in. I read about all the trouble with the Remington 597 clips and I must have been blessed because all three of mine have experienced no clip problems! I cut one of the Marlin clips down to a 4 shot clip (to get rid of some of that clip hanging down so far) and the only problem I had with that clip was I didn't cut enough off the spring on the first try! Good luck in your pursuits! GHD 0
