25 auto "no good" think again
to even think that the 25 auto is usless as a defensive round is foolish, senior post guys saying bats& sticks are far better than the lowly 25 is foolish, a good 25 auto..Beretta, Astra cub, seacamp,CZ 1945 are all top shelf pistols that can save your ass...there easy to hide, light weight are quick to get into action and can stop an attack quickly..bigger-better more powerfull is not always the case when the chips are down...a 25 will kill and dont forget it ..in a water test it will penetrate 30+ ".....I have seen a few dead people all shot with the useless 25...it has a real place in self defense, the key is a good 25 with a hammer fire system and good fresh ammo..an 8 shot 25 can& will help you make it home.....John Moses Browning thought so and invented it all those years ago...Mr Browning never made something that was useless.

Hi, Billy--Well, accidents do happen. It was in the first issue of "Cartridges Of The World", I believe, that an incident was related where a young boy was accidentally shot in the eye with a pellet gun and died. Accidents do happen; and that's almost what it takes to kill someone with a .25 Auto--accident or luck. I don't know what you base your experience on--your profile says you're a painter--I base mine on military infantry, civilian police, and security experiece; a bit over 40 years worth now. I once saw an individual who had been shot center forehead with a .22 L.R. and took 6 hours to die, during which he gave his "Dying Declaration" as to who shot him and why. Anyway, the question really is not will a .25 ACP acually kill someone, because a pellet gun will; the question is what would you be best armed with. A .25 ACP is really a very poor choice. 0 -
I think its more of why go with .25acp when you can have a .32acp or .32NAA the same size and price.Kel-Tec new .380 is about the same size as a .25acp,I know I would rather have that.Sure a .25 can kill somebody but so can a Pellet gun. 0 -
It is my understanding that the only reason Browning invented the .25 Auto round was he was having problems with reliable feeding with the 22 rimfires. Of course as a threat no one wants to be shot by anything and that is perhaps where the value of the .25 is. 0 -
I am personally aware of two cases where a single round from a 25 was fatal. Regardless of how much better larger calibers perform, a 35 grain XTP or 50 gr FMJ in the face will almost certainly work as an effective deterrent 99.9% of the time. If you're too far away to hit them in the face, you're probably too far away to need deadly force.

Get any ballistic chart and compare the calibers. Simple fact is that when talking 22, 25, 32, 380, 9x18, 9mm Luger, 38, etc., etc. the 25 is at the bottom in velocity and energy.
Does that mean the 25 won't kill ... NO! It means that the 25 is the least effective in penetration and stopping power.
There are people claiming that they are now buying some of the new mini 17 HMR pieces coming on the market for personal defense. Well, OK, it's got ballistics that exceed a 22 mag. and crowds the 32's so I guess if your inclined you sure could. But, the question here is why would you pay about the same price as you would for a 380 or larger if the purchase was to be your only defensive weapon.
However, if you own several pistols/revolvers and your going for another super small piece what's the problem, it's your money spend it as you see fit.
Concealed carry presents a number of situational problems due to changing climates, dressing for an activity or event, etc. so those that carry and have these situations to contend with use different weapons that they feel to be best for a given situation. They do not own and use only one ... they have several.
If you are in the market to buy a single defensive weapon buy as much "caiber" as you can afford and that is appropriate to the majority of your carry situations.
If you only own one gun ... then by default that is your defensive weapon until you buy another, etc.
Buy the best ammunition that is available for your gun, and practice with it to gain and maintain profeciency.
Ballistics are what they are and this endless wrangling is not going to change them at all[;)]
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
A .25 is a very good gun to carry. It will work very good if you have a problem, Just pull your .25.. and when the BAD GUY looks at it and starts to laugh his head off, RUN![:D]

this has always been a favorite subject of mine. some will know im one of few people that defend jennings and the 25cal. i had a bozo sea l'ion' (actual navy term withheld) sit and lecture me how one of his 'buds'(you usmc guys know what a bud is right?,) told him that he knew a guy that had a navy flying jacket on and it saved his life when he was shot at with a 25cal. so he kept on ragging me and ragging me so i got fed up and handed him my leather flt jacket and pulled out my 25cal browning in my home. i told him to put it on, i loaded my 25cal, and asked him to let me shoot at him and see. [:0] his eyes got so round i thought they were headlights. [}:)] i think he wet himself too. needless to say i made my point and he went away educated. we old navy guys are different, but dont take us for stupid, i never would have shot him or pointed it at him. [:p] 25cal does its job. it breaks contact and defends. im glad to see some of you FINALLY 'with me' on this topic.

A lot depends on what kind of 25 pistol you are using. I did a test one time taking a 1908 Colt hammerless and a Raven. I fire a round of Winchester ball 25 acp from each at a 55 gallon drum. The round from the Colt penatrated both sides and the one from the Raven bounced off the side. 0 -
I have a Colt "vest pocket". Sometimes I carry it when dress calls for something very concealable. I don't look at it as a pistol. I try to think of it as a single shot shot gun loaded with buckshot, one that requires many trigger pulls to go off. That's the only way to defend yourself with a 25 or a 32 for that matter. Empty it into your attacker.

Hello, first rule: Have a gun. If a small person can't handle a larger gun, have a .25, but HAVE a gun.

I once shot a 45lb goat for a barbeque with a .25 Mauser. Broadside at 5 feet with a good chest shot. He looked at me like I was stupid. He sat down and I then put a round into his brain to finish him.
With so much better rounds, a .22LR included, why take a chance if protecting your life?0 -
This looks like a post to go on General Discussion board. What is the question? 0
