the action isnt what makes a gun great, its the combination of all the parts that makes a gun great. you can have a mauser action on a burnt bbl, making the gun worthless. accuarcy begins at the bbl. everything else becomes secondary. how the bullet is properly fed is key, but doesnt directly contribute to accuracy. indirectly, maybe, but not the single most important thing. accuracy is the result of numerous things all happening at the same time. remember, the 'action' is the method in which a bullet is cycled in and out of a 'receiver.' im sure most would agree the semi auto 'action' isnt known for its accuaracy. but the garand overall is known for being a sucessful firearm. some designs work and some dont. some work ok and some are superior. i dont know of any shooter totally pleased with a plain gun without somehow wanting to improve it one way or another. and most perfect guns are the results of countless experiments in that field. my 45 would be worthless if it wasnt matched. same with my M1A. it took lots of work and skill to bring the best out in it. so, focusing on the 'action' is a moot point. i would focus on the bbl in relation to how its mated to the receiver to start.

What BOBSKI says is true, however there is an inherrent defect in the Mini-14' bbl construction. The original 7.62 X 39 cart uses a .311 bullet. The Ruger bbl is .308. To avoid pressure problems when firing the .311 bullet, there is some "freebore" in the Ruger bbl. Using "freebore" with short bearing bullets that are standard is not compatable with the best in accuracy.
The importance of the action in accuracy is essentially to produce a consistant, tight lockup. This is why target rifles are made with minimum chamber size. Any excess in nominal headspace may result in inaccuracy due to time delay in ignition and/or cartridge position variation.
    Have fun, be careful!
