How do i measure a shotgun barrel?

    Make sure gun is not loaded, close bolt in ready to fire position, stand up on buttpad,run cleaning rod or other availible rod or object down barrel until it rests on boltface,mark rod or other device, remove it from barrel and measure length.-- Thats how they would measure it to see if it is shorter than legal length. -- Can also use string with small plumb bob or a small stiff tape measure but the cleaning rod or a wooden dowell works best for me......[8D]

    not cutting,Im buying a new barrel with the remchoke for it and was not sure where to measure from,so that i ordered the same length barrel that was on it.

    Rod down the barrel w/closed bolt is a good way

    But remember when ordering it ,they have two types of barrel rings ,the older style has a larger hole for the mag tube ,the newer style has a smaller ring ,to hinder putting a mag tube extension on it

    measure from the muzzle back to where the primer of the shell would sit inserted into the chamber. simply put, from the back of the primer to the muzzle. you can use a dummy hull to achieve this safely.
