Need info on German Training rifle
I have this old German .22lr training rifle. The gun has a 26" barrel, long blade front sight, 200 meter adj. rear sight, dovetailed rec. On the left side of barrel it says Waffenfabriken Simson & Co. SUHL and near the rear of rec. on the barrel it says 2713. The left side of barrel near the rec. has Crown B & U proof marks and 5,3mm. The left side of Rec. says Simson Sportbuchse S407 Kaliber 22 long rifle. The bolt also has the Crown B & U proof marks on it. The wood stock has the grooves on the forend left and right side. The pistol grip has checkering on it and the buttplate has Simson on it. Does anyone know what this gun is or what it might be worth? I am not even sure how old it is either. Thanks

Also on top of rec. it has what looks like a mountain with the letter S inside it. 0 -
That sounds extrememly similar to one my dad got from his brother when he past away. The only thing that seems different is the name Simson I don't it recall being on his gun.
I know we have searched for information on his gun but have not found anything to date.
One neat thing about the gun my uncle brought back from WWI is that he carved the name of each river he crossed while he was over there. I think there is like 5 or 6 different river names carved into the stock.

From your description it appears, your rifle is a "Simson Sportbuchse" that was made under the Simson name from the late 20's until the early 30's.
In 1932 the name of the company was changed to B S W and the same rifle was produced for a number of years with the name German Sport Model or "D S M".

Your rifle sounds like a pre-war commercial. These are excellent shooting rifles and are worth a couple of hundred bucks. It may (or one similar) may be listed in Stoger's reprint of the 1939 catalog. 0
