No ballistic comparison ,218 is 1,000 fps slower ,and about 500 foot pounds weaker ,and .223 is more common and cheaper

I don't consider them comparable. The 223 has twice the Muzzle Energy, and uses twice the powder!!!

    Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob

The BEE!!! Why, cause every body and his brother has a .223, who do you know has a BEE??? The little Bee is just plain fun to shoot, and takes to cast bullets well for real reduced loads. If you only shoot to 200 yards at the most, and usually only 100, the Bee is great!!

I prefer the 223. More down range punch and when loaded right is does no more pelt damage than than a 22lr. Yea the 223 uses more powder, but when is the last time that you seen the bee in your local wally world??? Where would you find brass??? I can find 223 brass every where. Yea everyone shoots it; that is where I get most of my brass when I need some new brass or for more brass when I go out for a big parrie dog shoot.

    My thoughts

This is not a topic to argue over.
Each cartridge is great for what it's meant for.
Simple answer is to get one or two of each.
Then you won't agonize over getting the wrong one.
    Trust me!

You really can't compae the 2 but there is one thing to keep in mind and that is .... sub-22's tend to foul quickly and the smaller the bore the quicker it happens .... so you will see your accuracy shift sooner and you'll be spending a fair amount of time cleaning.

Other than cleaning the 218 is a fun caliber.

Pack Rat ... you are right and I am wrong! I've got the barrel in Contender 10" Oct. profile, not fired it in a couple years and have never owned the dies as I have a good friend (that I trust) who loads 'em and I cover his expenses to load up some for me. OK I was not only wrong I'm a little lazy[;)]

For some reason it seems like the round fouls my barrel pretty quickly, nothing like a 17, but still quicker than 221, 222 Hornet and 223 ... maybe it is just a function of that load and the short barrel. Maybe this contributed to my thinking it was sub-cal or maybe I just getting to flippin old[:D]

    Apologies for the bum info.

Contender Man --it's probably just a powder thing. Some just burn cleaner(and slower) than others. Found my teeth now I can't remember where I left my bottle of Geritol. Pinhead
