My father purchased a m-1 back in the early 70's that has a stock with front handle with finger groves. It looks like a thompson . Im wondering if these came with the m-1 or was it maybe an aftermarket. Or if any of you have even seen one thanks for your help.

    m1 carbine ... not Garand ... right?

I've heard another guy talking about such a stock, but I've never seen one. however I have seen a folding stock version with a pistol grip like forestock. Only seen the one and didn't know if it was a custom job or what and never got a chance to talk with the fella.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

I remember seeing those back in the 60's. Beleive it was a drop in unit, used surplus Thompson buttstock. If I can locate an old ad, I'll be more specific.

I have an aftermarket "Thompson" stock to which I installed my M1 carbine. It is metal and a drop in stock. The butt is a standard Thompson detachable stock, so the gun can be separated into 2 pieces. It does draw attention at the range.

Somebody was selling such a stock on Fleabay just last week; it was bid over $200 when I looked at it; I don't know what it closed at.

The Thompson uses a seperate buttstock, pistol grip and either vertical or horizontal foregrip, where the M1 carbine uses a one piece stock. The only two piece carbine stocks I'm aware of were folders. It sounds like what you're describing is an M1 carbine stock fitted with vertical rear and foregrips, not actually a Thompson stock fitted to this gun.

I'm not that familiar with M1 carbines, but didn't the infrared equipped GI carbines (M3?) come equipped with a vertical foregrip?

That looks just like the one I have, except mine did not come with the Thompson butt; I had to purchase it. It is neat, tho.

Volunteer Arms made a alloy type stock for the carbine that used thompson wood. The metal hat a black crinkle finish..thay also made a 9mm and a 45 semi auto The Commando, that looked like a thompson. Plainfield also made a "paratrooper model" that had a vertical front grip a la thompson

Just checked the listing on the other site and that is definitely the Volunteer Enterprises Kit, Made in Knoxville Tennessee. Sold for about $125.00 when new.
