mausers and serial numbers
I was hoping to see if anyone knows of a website to get mauser history and of any serial number websites that you can put in your serial number on an old military surplus and find out the information on it. Mostly I need the history on the mauser. I am wanting to start my mauser collection now and I want to know what I'm looking at when I see something that I like. Thanks for any help.

There are several, but they are specialized. Your question is akin to a car collector asking if there are any Chevy sites.

A great book on the history of the Mauser is Mauser Military Rifles of the World by Ball. Also gives country by country history and great color photos of all the Mausers. Does not have the serial number data you want, though.
Cost $45
This book is great help on ID ing a Mauser you have found, because it has close up photos of the crest of each country's Mauser, so with this book you would be able to tell which country the gun was made for, where it was made, and which model it is.0
