Is $500.00 a good price for a M1 Garand?
There is one in a local paper here for $500.00 dollars. They say it is in excellent condition.

Check out the markings on the parts; if Blue Sky on the barrel, walk away; get a 150 gr .30-06 springfield round and check to see if the barrel is shot out; work the action, should be smooth; check to see if the operating rod is not rubbing; if all checks out, offer $350 or so. Just left the gun and knife show in Nashville and M1 Garands in excellent condition were selling for $300 to $400 (some were priced tagged higher, but were not selling). 0 -
If the receiver is marked "CAI", do not buy at any price.

Think I'll head to Nashville and stock up ... $500 up here in Ohio is a good price for one in good condition. Think CMP is now over $400 for one.

CMP prices now are as follows:
Rack Grade $400.00 (barrel will need to be replaced soon, stocks not in such good shape)
Service Grade $500.00 (good barrel and stock)
I just received a Service Grade from the CMP. Good stock, no cracks, just a few dings that give it 'character.' Barrel nice and shiny, good lands and grooves all the way out to the muzzle.
