My friend, I hate to say this, but I've heard repeatedly that a .22LR is more effective than a .25.

I'm looking at the two side my side...one is rimfire, one ACP.

The .22 usually has about 75% more velocity & muzzle energy.

True, a .25 is better than a knife in the throat, but there are small, quality .22's available for $125 used. Better yet, go with a small .32ACP.

That said, these Speers don't sound too bad: #3501
    Energy Ft. lbs. - 73
    Velocity E.P.S. (muzzle) 800

They are described as "plinking" ammo. But so would any .22 (or varmits)

    ADDENDUM: jakelin speaks wisdom. Listen.
And a mild rebuttal to the Doctor: My Inox 3032 is deadly accurate at 50'.
    I load 60 gr. semi-JHP.

Don--Sorry, but I agree with jsergovic. The .25 ACP should not be taken seriously as a defense weapon. You'd probably be better armed with a baseball bat and a bag of rocks. Sure, a hit between the eyes at 10 ft. will probably prove lethal, but on the other hand there are recorded instances of the .25 ACP failing to penetrate a heavy overcoat, or multiple hits on an attacker just making him mad. A .22 L.R. hollow point is a better choice, and can be had in a pistol of comparable size. The next jump up from the .22 L.R. worth carrying is the .380 ACP (skip the .32s). Sell it.

I agree that you should look at atleast a .32ACP,the Kel-Tec is not much bigger than a .25ACP and only runs around $200.00-$250.00.I have seen a video of a female security officer in a Casino have a man approach to steal money off the cash cart and she tried to stop him.He shot her point blank in the face and she survived. If that was a p'od full grown man or a muscle bound convict with a weapon you can imagine what might have happened.Go with something larger.I think I would rather have a good quality sharp knife than a .25acp as a matter of fact.

Use Glaser Safety Slugs (blue or silver tipped). They fragment into a bunch of pieces on impact. They cost about 15 bucks for 6 rounds. - Toe

Penetration is a real problem for a 25. If you live in a year round warm climate that may not be that big of an issue, but for us in the frozen north land some of our heavy coats worn over layered vest or sweaters may stop of expend most of the bullet force causing little to no wound.

If your bound and determined to carry it and you live in a seasonal climate, when it is cold carry fmj ammo, warmer weather use something with more expansion and Glaser is one brand if they mfg. 25, I've never checked.

The sight of a gun may defuse some situations, but typically attacks happen fast and close in so you will have to use it not flash it. Practice and be committed to using it, preferrably center mass or if you become good enough to the face/head. Of course that's the basic advice I give most students regardless of caliber.

Really, I would like to talk you out of that caliber for personal defense, and suggest that you move up to 32 or 380 at the minimum. Kahr makes some nice carry pieces in both 9mm and 40cal and there are other companies that make fairly small pistols as well.

Remember, defensive carry means just that, you want to be able to defend yourself and others so if you want to go there, take the proper equipment whenever possible. Yes any gun is better than no gun at a gun fight, but the one still standing/breathing is the winner.

[:0] If this is your ccw gun ,read some of the posts and ask yourself what your life is worth...Is it worth a wish and a prayer with the 25 or is it worth spending $200.00 to buy something used and large enough to extend your living years if called upon to do so...Give it some real thought...[;)]

Your very best carry weapon is your brain- load it with common sense and you won't need the gun or the knife. On the very rare occasions I ever feel the need to go armed I carry a Beretta 318 in .25ACP.

    1. Empty the magazine at 'em.

    2. Throw the empty pistol at 'em.

    3. RUN LIKE ALL H*LL !!

.25 auto ,and self defense should never be allowed in the same sentence

    a 50grain .25 auto fmj ,has a muzzle velocity of 760fps.with energy of 65 foot-pounds
    a 31 grain .22 lr. Stinger has a muzzle velocity of 1640fps.with energy of 191 foot-pounds

a manual stab has 40 foot-pounds of pressure

a .25 auto fmj has been known to kill ,but it has also been known to bounce off a persons skull , and most that have died ,died a few days later

yep its me ,same one for 4 years now

I would never resort to carrying a 25ACP for self defense. You would be better served by hurling the pistol at your adversary, at least it will distract him while you make a hasty retreat. What is your life worth?

Save your money, just reach behind the seat for the tire iron.

Rule #1 in a gunfight. Have a gun. A .25 isn't much of a gun but it is one. Know of a man shot 7 times with one in the stomach, he took the gun from the shooter and beat him to death with it. He survived with only minor fleash wounds. When it was all settled, legally, he ended up with the pistol. 2 years later he was showing the same gun to someone and dropped it, it then fired, hit him in the wrist, bullet traveled up the bone to the elbow, he lost his arm over it.
A .25 feeds more reliably than does a .22. Get what you think is best and get good with it. That's my nickle's worth.

You're better off with a .380auto. But, if all you have is a .25auto then I guess it's better than nothing....burn off the clip at'em then run.
