Chokes
Does anyone know if I can get chokes installed in my winchester 101 that already has skeet/skeet fixed chokes and would it be expensive?

This new Crossfire comes with chokes. One of them has "SK" on it. The only thing I can come up with is Skeet. I don't know much about chokes. Any idea what "SK" means? And what chokes (if any) can be used with rifled slugs?
If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly0 -
I'm not familiar with the Crossfire but the tubes that I have dealt with, the sk indeed was skeet which means they will open your pattern up more quickly than other tubes. It also should work satisfactory with rifled slugs, good luck with your purchase,Bob. 0 -
Sk should mean skeet. It is generally recomended that you not use a tighter choke than modified for slugs. Chokes vary in tightness of pattern from different manufacturers and different loads that you shoot. The only real way to find out what is does is to set up a "pattern" board. This is just a large target set up at a specified range to see what percentage of your pellets go into a specified size circle drawn on the board.A 30" circle at 40 yds is standard unless you are shooting at something of a different size and distance that you need to find what your pattern is, or a 410 bore which is tested with a 20" circle at just 25yds. Then you set up to test accordingly.-- For instance: a standard full choke is supposed to place approx. 70-80% of it's loads pellets in a 30" circle. A modified choke is supposed to put approx.55-65% of it's pellets in the same circle. People that shoot competion take this even further and will draw maybe a 20" circle inside the larger circle to see how much of the load density is in the core of the circle where the target is most likely to be, and so forth and so on. If we take the standard 30" circle at 40yds and list the basic chokes expected percentage of pellets into the circle they go as follows from most "wide open" to tightest constriction : Cylinder bore(no choke) =35% or less; Skeet choke = 35-45%; Improved Cylinder choke =45-55%; Modified choke = 55-65%; Improved Modified choke = 65-70%; Full choke =70-80%; Extra Full choke = above 80%.--- There are others but these are the common standard chokes. They use very tight chokes for Turkey hunting at 60yds and such other specialty shooting.-- Hope this helps...........Good Luck.......[8D] 0 -
As stated above don't use a choke tighter than modified for slugs. If you have one marked "cylinder" that is best. A cylinder choke has no constriction.

Thanks all for the information on chokes. I'm anxious to set up a board and see just what this Crossfire does. My other two shotguns are both full choke. I wanted something to shoot slugs in from time to time. Thanks again.
