H&K P7's
Well, the HK bug has bitten me in the last year. I now have a USC and a USP Tactical.
This is not enough. I have gotten attached to the P7. Could you owners chime in and tell me -
1. Which of the P7's is most popular and why?
2. Are there any M13's available for civilians?
3. How are the pistol's overall ergonomics?
4. Are parts/mags readily available?
5. Opinions on the pistol's performance.
6. Anything to watch for if buying a used?
While to say cost is not an object would be incorrect, I tend to buy quality. This gun would be fired probably 500 times a year, carried (sometimes), babied, etc., but no safe queen.
Thanks in advance

The P7-M8 is the most popular and the mags are much more readily available. I think the extra width of the M-13 messes up the wonderful feel of the gun and the extra hi-caps are cost prohibitive (when you can find them).
The ergonomics are outstanding with an extremely low bore axis in your hand. To me this makes it much more of a natural pointer.
The only drawbacks that I can think of are not really problems. The unique squeeze-cock action is very hard to transition to for a more conventional action. Also, the alloy frame heats rather quickly with rapid fire (like an IDPA Match).
AN ARMED SOCIETY IS A POLITE SOCIETY0 -
It is better to have no P7's or only P7's so that the squeeze cocker becomes instinctive. Don't squeeze the cocker until the muzzle is on the target mass. Just before the sights align is what I try for.

Great gun. I have the P7 M8, M13, and M10. It takes awhile getting used to. You will tend to aim high when bringing the gun up w/o squeezing the cocker. Also the magazine release may mess you up coming up out of the holster as you may accidently hit it and release the mag.
The earlier ones did not have the heat shield around the trigger and it would get warm if you did extended shooting.
You cannot shoot lead, and do not want to shoot 'dirty' ammo as this gun as it is gas operated.
Several IDPA shooters in the club I visit use them.0 -
1. P7M8 - it's more 'affordable' than the other models
2. Plenty, do a search and you'll find them right here on GB, even the used ones tend to be a little pricey
3. GREAT! Easy to handle, comfortable, and when you get used to the squeeze cocker you won't want to go back. Snag free (low sites and rounded edges) so it's good to carry. Full grip frame with a relatively short barrel/slide like a commander gov't model so you get a good grip, as opposed to those small frame/long slide minis - like a Beretta cougar - that are hard to handle. If you have BIG hands, the double stack M13 or M10 (40cal) might be more comfortable.
4. Yes, they're just expensive. Don't bother with anything but factory mags, no matter how attractive the price. Even the reputable aftermarket mag makers don't make a GOOD one. Last I looked, my M8's were running $50 a piece, the M10 and M13 $65 (BTW you can use an M10 in the M13).
5. Top notch. If you use dirty ammo, be very thorough about cleaning. It's gas delayed blowback, the piston gets cruddy, and the hole in the frame it goes into can be a b*tch to clean too.
6. If you want a shooter, get a police trade-in M8. Picked mine up for $700. They have a mark ground off of the slide, so collectors turn their nose up at them. If you want a collectible, as far as M8's, get a Chantilly not a Sterling, and ask about the date codes (there's a letter code on the slide, can check through HK to see mfg dates). Also beware the PSP's - they can be attractively priced for P7's, mostly because they have the Euro style mag release at the butt of the gun. Ok to plink or collect, but sucks for carry or serious shooting.
hope this helps
Got a new gun for my ex-wife.....pretty good trade, huh?0 -
