Colt ACE I have one and what a treat to shoot, this was a weapon designed for the military to train soldiers how to fire the service 1911. With the same weight as the 1911 and with a blowback simular to the recoil of the 1911. can shoot this .22 all day for less than $5.00 and have a great time.

very finicky. it must be cleaned every 500 rounds and it gums up horribly. accurate? nope. 15yds is all it was designed for.

former air operations officer SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 2. former navy skeet team, navy rifle/pistol team member. co-owner skeetmaster tubes inc.. owner/operator professional shooting instruction.

Beautiful gun. I have one like NIB and rarely shoot a magazine full without a stoppage. Had a Colt Ace .45-.22 conversion unit, same story. One pound in a five pound bag.

Colt ACE wonderful to look at and hold - fits in the hand just like the .45. Have owned 3 and all have required some work to properly/reliably feed. Most liked "hotter" .22 ammo and all required periodic cleaning while firing IF more than 2-3 boxes of shells were shot. Refrain from "lead" bullets use copper coated and ENJOY this wonderful piece of Colt history. I now shoot with a Ceiner .22 conversion and have put the Ace away. The Ceiner I have works flawlessly.[:)]

Colt has made various models of .22 Automatic with the "ACE" name off and on for over 60 years.

The ones made prior to W W II are very valuable if in collectors condition.

Chances are you have a recently manufactured one, thats value won't be affected if used.

Due to the "Floating Chamber" operating system, I've had a lot of functioning problems with the Ace's mechanism. My advice is to us CCI Stinger Ammo in your Ace. It's projectile is plated with copper that won't foul the action as quickly as other brands of ammo.

Here is a excelent link to a site that gives a partial history of the early Colt Automatics. If your Ace is similar to the one's pictured, don't shoot it as it will degrade it's value as a collectors item.

They are slick, especially since the design dates to the late 30's, but they are not accurate and they require a lot of attention.

Enjoy it for what it is, and if you want serious accuracy get a Marvel conversion unit ... they are super shooters and basically mate up with all of the mainline 1911 clones.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
