plains, my opinion is that they are pretty good little guns. They are a sort of overgrown Win. M69a, or M75 type action. They were made in 4 calibers, .22 Hornet, .218 Bee, 25-20 and 32-20. Wish I had one of each but the last two are pretty dear. They were discontinued in the late 60's I think. Prices for the first two run about 6-800, the other two up to 1200. Some other members have better price info than I do , so might modify those figures.

    Plains...

The Model 43 was authorized for developement and production on May 31, 1944. It was developed as a "Junior Winchester Model 70". The first rifles were delivered to warehouse stock on February 4, 1949, and it was first listed in the January 14, 1949 price list. Production ceased in 1957 after 62,617 were made.

Boy are you guys smart! I thought I had stumped the experts for awhile. I looked at all the reference material I had and could find NOTHING!! That include "The Winchester Handbook"

If anyone else has more on this gun, I would be extremly interested. I was not even sure it was a real good.

    Thanks.

They are great guns Plains....Early Winchester quality all the way. If you buy it, be sure and get all the mags the person has, these are getting harder and harder to find!!

    Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob

The main problem with them is that they are right at marginal in strength for the Hornet and Bee. If fired a great deal they can develop excess headspace. That can be fixed however.
