My references show that "Dickson" was a trade name used by a American importer on inexpensive handguns imported from Europe in the 1960's.

The revolver imported from Germany was made by Hermann Weihrauch Co. located in Bavaria.

Your Commander 638, is probably identicle to the Arminius HW-38, imported and sold by others during the same time frame.

The Gun Control Act law of 1968, curtailed the importation of these handguns.

They were sold for less then $100 during the 60's, and aren't worth much more than that today as there is little collectors interest/demand for them.

thanks. appreciate your response. my friend owns this gun, and i will look at the box again, but i wrote down the info while looking at it. it is spelled dixson, made in germany, and is a blued 6 shot 38 special revolver with about a 2 inch barrel. nothing like the luger-look photo you attached.

How about this one? It's a picture of a Arminius with a 4" barrel, that I borrowed from Bob Adams's fine site.

Does it look like your friends revolver, except for the barrel length?

Rufe! Don't replace your trademark picture with that one. Talk about beauty and the beast ... [:D]

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
