Nagant 38 & 44
Can someone tell me the difference? They look identical in pics...I think I'll probably get at least one of each, but what should I know?? Then there's the 91/30...

If your going to start in on collecting the different Nagants, get a new safe with lots of room.
Hit some of the web sites and you'll become amazed at all of the varriations.

Actually, my collecting interests are so eclectic that it's not a collection as much as a conglomeration....Stevens single shots are my newest interest... Just would like a couple representative Nagants 'cause of the prices...Jus' sorta confused with the 38&44....

I may be mistaken but I believe the 38s dont have a bayonet.

The model 44 has a folding bayonet permanently attached. The Model 38 has no provision for a bayonet. Check out the rearsenaled model 38s Aztec has for $49.95. I just received two and they are really nice. 0 -
Also, the 38's that alot of the companies such as SOG and AIM have the m44 stock on it and NOT the m38 stock. The m38 has no provision for a bayonet but the stock for the m44 has has a cutout for it. *notice the "groove" in the handguard. Thats were the bayonet, once folded goes.

The 38 should take a detachable bayonet like the 91 does, the M44 is a similar sized carbine with a folding cruciform bayo on the side.

Listen I hate to get picky, but...
When you are talking about the M44 or M38 it is the Mosin Nagant.
Nagant refers to the Russian pistol, which Mr. Mosin was not involved in the design of.0 -
These are great fun to shoot. I've got a Romanian 44. I think this sums up my 'collection' as well.

the 38 is a short rifle, and its BBL is slightly longer than the 44. the 38 has no bayonet lug, or fixed folding bayonet. the 38 was designed for rear area troops (drivers, mechanics, cooks, etc...) and the blade was dropped because these troops were not suppossed to see front line combat. the stck configuration is slightly different between the two. the 44 is classified as a true carbine. both are nice guns. buy a russian IZHEVSK or TULA arsenal gun, from 1935 to 1944 is best for the least amount of money. best regards, mike.
