Wow... It's really serial number 1 and it's in .220 Swift? For some reason I always figured it'd be an '06 or something. 0 -
Scott, what you have is the first rifle made in a special early run of 1,000 M77V rifles in this caliber. I've not looked at the S/N of mine for decades, but it is from the same run, which is when I bought it. It was produced circa 1975 and if anything like mine, will hold .5 MOA out of the box with factory ammo. To get an idea of the value, I'd suggest contacting the Ruger Collectors' Association. They would have a far better idea of this than anyone on a non-specialist board. I'm *really* glad you have it, not me!!! Mine is such a treasure to shoot and it would drive me freaking nuts to have S/N 1 NIB, knowing that shooting it would drop the value. That pain is the reason I decided to collect ammo, not firearms. I had two NIB firearms of considerable value and just couldn't stand the idea of the necessity of keeping them in that state to protect my investment. When I sold them and applied the proceeds to firearms I could shoot and a few goodies for my ammo collection, it was like taking the pebble out of a shoe.
