Like a BB gun. 0 -
depends on the 22 round. 22 shorts are the quiet ones. LR are a little louder and stingers are loudest. 0 -
Colibri's are very hush hush. 0 -
The noise level is low, but you have to use subsonic ammo for it to be effective. It is best if shot in a bolt action, lever action, or any other locked breech firearm. 0 -
w/ good silencer

Many years gone, a gent I once knew and I shot a Ruger 10/22 with one of the MAC supressors on it out of his living room into the backyard thru a bay window. The loudest sound was the bolt cycling- it didn't even get a reaction out of his dogs in a corner of the yard [not a huge yard either].

PS: Bear in mind there is a difference between a supressor and a sliencer. A silencer will do nothing to reduce the "crack" of a supersonic bullet; it only cuts off the report. A supressor will eliminate the ballistic "crack" too, but of course the round's effectiveness is reduced as well.0 -
CCI CB Shorts from my Winchester bolt action sound like the report of a low-powered air rifle. No silencer needed. It is quiet enough I can actually hear the striker hit the primer.

Most of the sound, (indoors), is that of the action and bullet strike. Outdoors it's a whole diffenent story. It is very simular to a BB gun. Nunn said it best: PFFFT. Nothing like TV. Sub-sonic ammo is the only truly quite ammo; leaving no sonic crack. The sound is not readily recgonizable to the uninitiated. A single shot
rifle with a quality supressor is 'scary quite'. [^]0 -
Personal experience with a homebuilt silencer on an Ansh?tz bolt action .22LR rifle is:
If you use "CCI Standard .22LR" ammunition which is sub-sonic.
You'll hear the "Click" sound, like if you're dry-firing the weapon
You'll hear a slight pfffft sound or "breathing"-sound - when the gasses expand/escape from the silencer.
and in most cases, you'll hear an Omph-sound when the bullet strikes/hits it's target
If you use any kind of Super-sonic ammunition, i.e. ammunition where the bullet travels faster than the speed of sound.
This ammunition is called "High velocity"/"Hyper velocity" and could be something like CCI Mini-Mag or CCI Stinger.
You'll hear a sonic-boom - but no muzzlecrack, as the silencer take away the noise made from the gasses (the "explosion")
You'll still hear the pfffft-sound/"breathing"-sound from the gasses
You'll hear the bullet strike/hit it's target
You'll be amazed at the silence when using sub-sonic or "Standard velocity" ammunition - as the loudest noise you'd hear is the click from the bolt/firing-pin.
When using Super-sonic ammunition, the sonic boom would sound something like... at my best guess.. slightly lower than the noise you'd hear from shooting standard/sub-sonic ammunition WITHOUT the silencer.
For total silence - use "Standard velocity", "Sub-Sonic" or perhaps ".22Short".
You'd get some noise reduction if you use super-sonic ammunition - but the noise will still be notisable as a shot, because of the sonic boom.
It won't be quiet - but still less than an un-silenced .22LR subsonic shot.

Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.
