I shot one this hunting season in .243 and thought it was a good rifle for the price.
It was pretty accurate in the four rounds i fired out of it.
The trigger was surprisingly good as well.

My brother and a friend of mine each have a handi rifle in .243. Hard to beat for the price. Very accuracte and durable. I have the NEF survivor model in .308 and love it. Also, the .243 is the only one you can get in stainless (for a little more).

Also, the company's website (hr1871.com) can give you all the specific information on the different models.

I have one in .243 for my 11 year old. He killed 2 deer with it this past season. Nice little gun for the money.

The handi rifles are very good for the money, they have a nice long LOP and feel right. My .223 heavy barrel will consistently hold about 1" @ 100yds.

The only downside is that you can't mount the scope low due to the hammer, and the forend cannot be free floated. But the are a very good 1st gun, especially in .243

I bought one in .243 several years ago and every time I fired it the action broke open. Was factory equipped with that barrel. Never could get it to lock up properly. Traded it at gun show.

Great gun for the money. Just make sure she's comfortable with it.

    Handis are good shooting guns.
their site has shut down the chat/bb portion,as they did on the marlin side .:(

Based on several good reports on the Handirifle I ordered 3 of them. One 243 heavy brl and 2 youth 223's. I'm not real sure if it was a good idea. As mentioned above, the 243 pops open at least half the time. I hope it works better after it gets broken in. I picked one of the 223's , scoped it with a good scope and tried to adjust the scope and break it in. After 20 rounds I gave up the project as the bullets wouldn't stay on a 12"x12" target. I pulled the scope off and tried another with the same results. The other 223 was better and I was able to get it sighted in. After cleaning, the first 3-4 shots will scatter all over but then it settles down to about 1" groups. I haven't had time to see what happens with a dirty cold barrel. I don't know what to do with the 243 as it is intended to be used as a hunting gun for handicapped youths.
