IVER JOHNSON
Anyone no what model and what years they were made?
On the barrel its says 20 guage choke bore barrel and lug forged in one. On the receiver it says Iver Johnson's Arms & cycle works Fitchburg Mass USA
I think the Locking Bolt Spring is broken.

Hi Again, its 20guage,28 inch barrel.their is no writing on the barrel the receiver says iver johnsons, arms ???works, fitchsurg mass usa, champion.Hope this helps.
THANKS0 -
yep, you got a champion. the vent rib is very rare. when you install an empty hull and eject it, does it kick 'click' out? it would mean you have an ejector feature too. nice little gun. how tight is the bbl to the receiver? vent means there is space under the rib that you can see thru. solid means its a solid piece of metal acting as the rib. which is it? 0 -
bobski, It does "click" and throw a loaded shell completely out of the chamber, and the solid (no holes) rib runs the full length of the barrel. The action is very tight with no visible space between the barrel and receiver. 0 -
The gun you have is a champion with matted rib barrel.Made from 1909 to 1948.Being a 20 ga. makes it more desireable than the more common 12 ga.In the condition you describe,i would estimate the value at around $100. 0 -
Old single shot, Im not try to argue im just asking. i was under the impression that a matted rib barrel is one that has etching or engraving fromthe receiver to the bead on the barrel. Please correct me if im wrong, but this gun has a solid metal rib that is approx 1/4 on the top of barrel the full length, just like a vent rib without vents.THANKS 0 -
antond82,
the iver johnson's arms & cycle works 'champion matted rib model' was manufactured between 1913 and 1941. it the case of this model the matted means a dull non reflective finish. if your shotgun is a true matted rib model it will have checkering on the pistol grip and the fore-end and the fore-end will have what the factory called a large knob tip. the matted rib model was offered in 12, 16 and 20 gauges and barrel lengths of 28,30 and 32 inches.
