not unusual...they will normally out live you in use.
Also depends on what type your talking about.
The ones with wipers, you have to replace the wipers, not many of those being made anymore due to atf regs on the wipers are considered a restricted weapon in themselves, almost always has to go back to the mfg for rebuild.
Most current suppressors now are using baffle stacks that removeable & cleanable. Also there others out there that are sealed, all you do to them is run solvent through them to clean them.
3 months ago you could have bought a .22 can for $89, the are now up to $225 for the Coastal cans & they are quite good for the $.

Whatever type of silencer you buy - it is a good thing to shake out or clean it for debris.

Is it's a model that you can disassemble, you should do so - before the unburnt gunpowder hardens or fills up the little gaps between the discs and the "can" itself.

I've made a model, that has a Delrin (heatresistant nylon) rod - but made it at more loose tollerances.
I made it that way, because I knew the problem with the Delrin/Nylon rod can get stuck - because silencer-manufacturers make silencers at small tollerances, which is absolutely great for catching the debris.

If it's a closed can - ask for instructions on how to clean it.
What to soak it in, how to dry it and such.

I would believe, if good materials are used - then it will last 10-20.000 rounds in .22LR depending om the model, build and materials.

The silencer doesn't come into contact with anything else than the hot gasses and debris - so there's no actual wear and tear from other than the gasses and flying debris.

    MagLite-Flashlight converted to Silencer.

Let's not forget the $200 bucks to BATFE lest you want to meet a crew of ninja's around say 3 or 4 am in your bedroon, shining very bright lights in your eyes and shouting rude commands at you ...

... and that's regardless of commercial or homemade, play with one of these puppies and you'll attract "new friends".

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
