I had a VSSF which is a sendero in varmit calibers and my best 3 shot group was 3/8" and the typical grouping was just a hair over 1/2" with Hornady factory loads. Regrettably, I had to sell that one some years back and I've REALLY regretted it...

I have three of the short action VSSF versions of the Sendero that Bambi mentioned in 308,22-250,223 and one long action Sendero in 300 Win. Mag..-- I bought the 308 the first year they were made ( don't think they make the 308's anymore). I shot it stock with the exception of trigger adjustment and then decided I would work my magic on it. I installed a Timney trigger,A decelerator pad, blue printed the action, recut the threads on the bbl and turned it back a few threads and recut the chamber. After all the magic was performed I gained less than 1/4" improvement at 100yds with five shot groups and less than 1/2" group improvement at 300yds. After I put up my rabbit and my hat, I bought the other two short actions and found that with no improvements except adjusting the factory trigger that they were 5/8" to 3/4" group guns with factory ammo and 1/2" guns with carefull handloads I worked up over time(and occasionally better than that when I do my part and the weather is good). The 300 mag is a 5/8" to 3/4" gun(3 shot groups) with loads it likes and premium hunting type bullets. These guns are shooters for factory Prod. rifles unless you get a lemon -- but I haven't. They are an exceptional performance value, especially for the money compared to some of the pricer brands.--- I would suggest you spend your time and money on finding the loads that your gun will like first and then weigh out if a small gain in accuracy is worth it to you. They are pretty darn good stock. Good luck.....[8D]

The first thing I would do is junk the stock. The H-S stocks are not very ergonomic and too flimsy for my tastes. Drop that thing in a McMillan, bed it and enjoy. A lot of H-S products really light my fire but their stocks aint one of 'em. The McMillan is a more ridgid and way better nade handle for a quality rifle. If you like the factory handle, the McM will blow your socks off. As for accuracy in factory form, 1" with factory ammo that the rifle likes "should" be unacceptable. Should do at least .5moa.

Everyone has a photographic memory. Only some have film.

as far as factory expectations goes,...I have yet to own one or shoot one of someone else's that wasn't a 1/2" or less gun.

where the HS stock is concerned,...a skim bedding job will be about all that can be done. I own both mcmillans and HS precisions,..and as far as performance goes,..I don't see the difference. My HS tactical shot almost as good as my mcmillan benchrest stock at 1000yds,..and it didn't even have a flat bottom to ride the bags as well as the mcmillan. Skim bed them,..and don't look back. Now if you were building it from scratch,..that would be a different matter.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
    Got Balistics?

I'm with JustC on the stocks.Don't waste money changing out an already quality stock. You'll never see the difference. I have both types(and others)and there's no big gain to be had there, especially starting with what you already have.---You could put a speedlock spring and firing pin kit in the bolt to increase lock up time, but I'd still work on pet loads for the gun first and then decide what else you want to do after that.......[8D]

Um, wouldn't that hopefully REDUCE lock time? [;)]

And when you get the 25-06 SS Sendero, load you up some 85 grain Nosler BT ahead of 57 grains of Reloader 19, seat the bullets 10/1000's off the lands and watch the little ragged holes appear on the target! SHould give you about 3600fps(one of mine gets 3614 and the other gets 3608)! Have fun! GHD
