Convert 1911 .45ACP to .40S&W ??
Looks like minimal changes needed to convert. Goal to convert so as to easily change from one caliber to the other and back again. Standard mag accepts and holds the .40 rounds, as-is or just bend the lips in a bit more. .40 round is only about .025" smaller radius than the .45 so the extractor and ejector might work as-is. Either easily modified if necessary. Would have to replace the barrel and maybe the cycle spring. Comments requested and appreciated.

The ejector might work, The extractor probably won't may need to get an oversized one and fit it the way you need. In my .40, I use springs anywhere from 14-22#. A barrel of coarse...

I build a 40 S&W using a 10mm Delta Elite slide. I had to have a 10 mm ejector and a # 4 slide stop. I don't know how a 45 slide will work. I know that Colt used a different slide. A Colt or Meggar 40 S&W magazine works with the standard frame. I built mine on an Essex frame and used a factory Colt 40 S&W barrel. 0 -
I don't think that you could get 40 to feed or eject reliably in a 45 slide. I believe the breech face on the 45 slide would just be to big. If you want to try it, the 40 mags have a spacer like the 9mm because the ammo is shorter than the 45s or 10mm. You would need a barrel & mag. The slide stop would also be different for the 40, as well as the ejector and extractor. The recoil spring would be the same as the 45. 0 -
You'd be better off buying an entire .40s&w top end and magazines to fit on your 1911 frame than attempting to do a conversion of a .45acp top to feed .40s&w.
