Is there a way to verify a FFL license online?
Thanks!

Go to the GB auction site and, at the top of the page click on "for sellers". Scroll down and there is a link.

You can verify an FFL (other than a type 03) at the BATF web site. You will need the first 3 and last 5 digits of the FFL number. If it is a valid FFL, you will get the name, mailing address, and premisis address of the licensee. See the link.

If thats the case, why don't sellers do that instead of asking for a copy? I would think it would be much easier than waiting for one in the mail. 0 -

I don't know why, but a lot of nonlicensees think they need to have a copy. While it might be a good CYA and make you feel better, it is not legally required unless you are also a licensee. In a transfer between licensees, the shipping FFL must have a certified copy of the receiving FFL's license before shipping the firearm.0 -
I thought it was a Blue ink signed copy, not a "certified copy"?

I find it really odd, that shippers are "required" to verify the information on a FFL license that has been sent by the buyer/receiving dealer ... however when you do you get this:
Warning: No one may use this screen, in lieu of the required certified copy of a Federal Firearms License, to acquire a firearm.
I mean really ... your verifying that the information you have been sent is correct ... but then the information you are comparing it to isn't "guaranteed correct" information on its own ... [:0]

A certified copy is defined as a copy of the FFL with an original signature of the license holder. The color used does not matter. It can be in crayon, although most people want the signature in ink other than black.0 -

You are not required to verify the validity of the license. It is just a "feel good" thing.0 -

To prevent persons from forging a license, you must verify the license here. If our system tells you that the license is expired or invalid, you must call the BATF licensing center to verify the license. Failure to properly verify a license may result in you illegally shipping a firearm which is a felony. My mistake - it only says that on GunBroker, not the actual FFL ez check site operated by the BTAFE.
