Timney trigger for Ruger 77 MkII
Has anyone had any experience putting in the aftermarket Timney trigger for Ruger 77Mk II? The original trigger is Ruger typical...lousy..., and I was considering getting a Timney for this rifle.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re-read that post. Thanks. Missed it earlier. Anyone else that has experience putting the Timney in the 77 Mk II themselves, jump in here. 0 -
A friend and I did one on one of my MK II's. The next I paid a smith $20 to install. The trigger is great but has a block of steel that must be milled down to precisely fit the safety of that particular rifle. You must remove about 1/4" of metal and you want it really level, so a file is not the best way to go unless you are good. We used and end mill in a drill press. Spent 1.5 hr and broke two bits. With machining tools, the smith did it with my direction in about 12 minutes. If you are a machinist and have access to machine tools it will be about a 25 or 30 minute job first time. Otherwise take it to a smith, it will be worth the money.
Welcome to the board, stick around, someone has done most anything you want to do. There are one or two smiths here, a few dealers and a lot of good experienced folks.

When I installed mine, I intentionally filed the block on a slight angle so that it would be really tight in the fully locked position and not so tight in the 1/2 safe position. Just a thought, but not really hard to do IMHO.

When I bought the rifle, it had the trigger in it already, but had been installed by a real "gunsmith" who had it set up so light, and unfitted that when the safety was applied, sometimes it would fire the rifle. I may have got lucky but it works.
