Easton Rifle Co. barrel
Does anybody know when they were in business? I have a Jap Arisaka sporter with a barrel marked "Easton Rifle Co." it is chambered in .250-3000 Savage. The stock is a beautiful piece of shell flame maple with white Tenite forend and grip cap, black buttplate marked "Win-Mer Co." [I'd hate to think what it would cost today!]. The bolt handle is altered for the scope and polished [very pro job], Weaver scope mounts, and the metal work is pro reblued. It is really a very pretty little gun. I was just curious as to when it was built, my guess is 1950s sometime, as the work looks like it would be of that period.

I am certainly open for correction here but I believe that your barrel is a product of P.O. Ackley after he left Trinidad, CO. He moved to Utah and started anew, or continued as the case may be, a complete manufacturing company which made and sold barrels, reloading equipment, complete guns and, I believe, bullets(projectiles). This was in the very early 50's and by the time I was really old enough to have any idea what was going on, I was the only shooter in my family so I had to bother a lot of people for my gun education, Ackley and Easton had parted on rather unfriendly terms, I guess. Ackley never really recovered his business and reputation from the association. I have not been able to find much information about the years of their partnership but I gather it was not a very pleasant time after the "honeymoon" so to speak.

Thank you for the reply. I got this gun out of a collection of custom rifles that were being sold several years ago. There were Mausers, Springfields, Enfields and this lone Arisaka. All were probably late 40s thru 50s era work. I think some of the other guns had Johnson Arms Co. [of Johnson rifle and MG fame] barrels on them. It was a nice set, I wish I had been able to afford the whole lot.
