Luger magazines

I have a P 08 Luger I bought at an auction. It had no mag when I got it so I bought 4 Mecgar 8 rnd mags. They work fine in my Luger.

The gun is particular about ammo. It likes ball ammo, and hates hollowpoints with a flat point, which is to be expected for a military gun.

While P08's are ammunition sensitive, they are not really known for being magazine sensitive given a clean, properly made mag. The feed lips are fairly strong and resist damage better than most.

The original bullet shape at the beginning of the 20th century was jacketed and trunicated, which is about like a dunce hat with a flat tip 1/4 the length of the bullet. Allied propaganda about inhuman 'Dum-Dum' bullets caused the Germans to eventually change the shape.

I mostly use original mags, but on my shooters use Triple K mags with the wooden bases. They work fine so far. As to your sticking at six rounds, it may take a machinist ruler to tell, but I would venture to speculate that either the mags is dirty or the shape is out of specifications, especially if it is an aftermarket (which is usually thinner metal than an original).

Thanks guys! Oddly enough, the two brands mentioned that were successful were the two I was told to stay away from! Seller didn't say if mag was original, but from looks of it, I assume it is (wooden base shows age/wear). There are no markings that I can find on the mag. There is some sort of...gunk...oozing up around the follower, as if heavy grease was used on it. Thanks for all your help.
