    Scott, Ak-47's are legal here. Big mags are also legal. Even Class 3 full auto's are legal.

    So you won't mis-understand select-fire:

    Semi-auto "AK-47 type" firearms are legal (assuming you meet the Federal requrements for firearm ownership--ie. no criminal record, age 18 for long guns, 21 for handguns, no domestic violence arrests, etc.).

    Full auto firearms are legal (again, meeting the Federal requirements for "Class 3" firearms)--but be aware, this is a fairly recent change in SC law; there are probably still law enforcement officiers who are not aware of the current law, so don't be surprised if you get a different answer from "the local cop." And if you're not sure what a "Class 3" firearm involves, just know that legal "machine guns" require lots of paperwork; if a "friend" has a machine gun without "lots of paperwork" it's probably not legal--and is best to probably stay very far away from...

    High-capacity magazines are legal if they are "pre-ban"--ie. manufactured prior to the "1994 Crime Bill." (There is a chance that the law may change later this year if the 1994 Bill is allowed to expire.

    I'm curious too: What prompted your question? Were you thinking someone had an illegal weapon? Or did you just move here from a state with more restrictive gun laws and are looking for general info.?

    Compentone, He requested a FFL dealer in another post. Obviously he will do everything legal or he wouldn't be asking in the first place. Federal law on 94 assault weapon ban is same in SC as it is elsewhere.

    I WANTED THE INFO BEFORE I COMMITED MYSELF TO PURCHASING AN AK 47-SAR1 7.62 X 39 WITH 75 ROUND DRUM.THIS WOULD BE A PURCHASE OF A "NEW" ROMAIAN FIREARM FROM ATLANTIC FIREARMS.COM,I AM NOT SURE IF THE GUNS DATE OF MFG WOULD BE PRE BAN OR NOT.IVE READ THE SC GUN LAWS AND THE WAY ITS WORDED IT SEEMED TO BE ILLEAGEL.I DIDNT WANT TO LOOSE MY PRIVILEGE TO BUY FIREARMS BUY PURCHASING AN ILLEGAL WEAPON.THANKS TO SELECT-FIRE FOR HELPING WITH MY DECISION.THANK YOU FOR THE REPLYS.......SCOTT
