742 Remington problems

I have a 6mm. 742 that backs out the primer when shot.I had a gunsmith work on it with no luck.He checked the head spacing, chamfered the firing pin hole,polished the chamber,and deepened the gas chamber on the action bar.Still have the same problem.Any help would be helpful.

    SEND IT BACK TO REMINGTON FOR REPAIR.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    NO DICE as far as sending it back to remington, They dont repair model 742 rifles anymore The only thing they will do is give you a discount on a new 7400.This happend to my uncle and he refused to buy a new 7400 and ended up Buying a broken 742 for the parts he needed.
    My advice is to find a Good gunsmith and see if he has some scrounged parts on hand to fix your rifle (there are little or no part sources either) I dont mean to sound grim but this is what happend to us.

    i work on more of these rifles than anything. it might just be that the bolt latch is not working properly. sounds like your gunsmith went through the correct procedures.i do have a new complete bolt for these animals in the shop if you get in a bind.

    Hello, the Remington 742, I have one in .30-06 and one in .308. They have weak rails which cause the bolt to have too much up and down movement that allows the locking lugs to dig into the top of the receiver totally ruining the gun. Mine are in great shape and with the amount of use I will give them, they will last me forever. The fact that yours still works is a good sign. However, as for your problem, does this stop the gun from working? If not, who cares about the primer backing out a little? Unless the primer backs all the way out. Use it little, clean and oil it everytime you use it. It will last for a while.

    Have you tried diffrent ammo?

    I have tried different factory loads.As for the bolt latch thats what the gunsmith thought,its leting loose a fraction to soon.
