What value on my pre-ban mini14 with folding stock
I am thinking about listing my preban Ruger mini 14 .223 stainless with a Ruger stainless folding stock and one Ruger 30 round mag all in near new condition. I have no idea what is a fair price. Any suggestions?

Some realities here. Unless it is a Government Model, it would have to have documentation that it existed in preban configuration prior to the ban to be a legal assault rifle. Many people think that any Mini-14 built before the ban is preban, and all you have to do is add a foloding stock. That is not true. The rifle had to exist as an assault rifle before the ban, and according to the ATF, and I believe the wording of the assault weapons ban, that has to be documented.
Maybe if it has a factory Ruger folder you can demonstrate it came from the factory that way.
That's not saying you won't find someone who will be fooled into buying it without such documentation. I see them sitting on dealer's tables at gunshows for $600 - $700. But never seen one sell for that. I also see them walking around (with their owner) with BC folders and an asking price of around $400. I bought a NICE blued ranch rifle with BC folder for $350 about a year ago. Listed it on gunbroker a few months ago with an opening of $400 with no bidders. Sold it locally for $375.
Can you prove the Ruger stock was added before the ban? If it was a Government Model, price would approach $1000.
I think as the ban approaches the sunset, and IF people are convinced the ban will sunset, the price will go down quite a bit. If you want to sell it, do it soon, and find someone who is ignorant of actual federal laws, unless you do have a documented history on the rifle.

thanks BoeBoe. I save almost every receipt so I think I can prove it came with the Ruger folding stock in 1987. If not maybe I can get notorized statements from people who know this is true. But come to think of it, what ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? In the case of the ATF it sounds like it is "guilty until proven innocent".

Yeh, I think it's innocent until proven guilty unless they make a law that says otherwise. And I think that in the case of the assault weapons ban, they worded it so the burden of proof was with the owner. Not that they haven't written any other gun laws that were unconstitutional...
