Duelling Pstols
Hi, I have a question on a set of duelling pistols. They were made by a man named LePage, they are in a case with everything in there except the powder flask. I was told that he made them for Napoleon and he was Napoleon's personnal gunsmith. The pistols are in very good condition. They are black with hexagon barrels, they have detailed metal and woodwork. I'm not a collecter but they have across my path and I would like to have them....but...I was told that the value on these are very, very high...the seller has a low 5 figure price but was told by another that resale could be 6 figure...help me with the truth of the history and the possibilities of these pistols if you can...I can get morew information on them. Thank you

LePage was a well known maker of French dueling pistols. If they had anything to do with Napoleon they have to be flintlock type. I have seen several pairs of LePage which were all percussions. Very few French cased pairs command a 5 figure price. If you really want a pair of duellers you can find them from reputable dealers for far less than $10k. I suggest you go slow on this one. 0 -
Welcome to the Ask the Experts Forum; I have a question for you..
Are you sure of the Spelling of the Maker of these Pistols?......
Now, some History for You....The Typical Dualing Pistols made By
Faure'-Lepage of Paris were with Fluted Barrels and Stocked in Ebony!
They were Cased in Velvet and Came with all the Ramrods and Powder Flask's, and Cleaning Patches and Oilers and depending wither or not they were Flintlock or Percussion, They had Flints or Percussion Caps
in covered Pockets....Your discription of the Wood would seem to imply that they are Faure'-Lepage Pistols..
Then comes the other LEPAGE....One LEPAGE was located in Herstal, Belguim...thats about 2 Kilometers from Liege..My database says 1795 to 1845...
The second LEPAGE was located in Liege on the Quay d'Le Orth...and No date for Beginning or Ending....altho LEPAGE made Semi-Automatic Pistols up to and thru The German Occupation in 1945...
The LEPAGE, made by Manufacture D'Armes Le Page, Liege, Belguim...
I don't believe there was any connection between the two Makers...altho They shared a common Language...and that can be a another Can of Worms and We won't go there...Walloon and Belguiqe..
If You need to know what I'm talking about...drop Me a personal Note and I'll explain it to you....Sounds like You have a Chance for a decent set of Dualers....I believe I'd consult a Professional Appraiser before spending a lot of Money.....I wish you Well.....
