blue light from black funk

Ok here I am. Probably get laughed off the board with my pants around my ankles, but here goes.

I have a couple of those wonderful Nagant rifles, one of which I want to put to use. I want to make a free standing lamp out of it. My problem is that this beauty has what looks like black paint on a good bit of the metal. Even in a lamp I would want a somewhat blue look. I tried to get it off with laquer thinner and had a little luck, but only with a good bit of elbow grease. I am about to goop it up with some furniture stripper. Before I do, does anyone have a tid-bit of info on how to get to bare metal easily ?

    My SKS had what appeared to be aerosol spray paint on it when I got it.
    Chemtool B12(carburetor cleaner),some fine steel wool and a little elbow grease took it right off.

    Martha Stewart is kind of busy, as she's in court today.

    I'm sure she's done this kind of thing many times before. Drop her a e-mail this evening when she's free. Chances are she'll know the easy how to do it. You'll save yourself a lot of elbow grease and aggravation.

    and dont forget to use a nice sharp razor to get those nooks and crannies. i saw them do it on a swedish 40cal on 'this old house.'
