Military style rifles are not my cup of tea anymore my interest these days go toward bolts and levers but i have owned
many over the years. As far as the Poly tech Aks-762 it is in my opinion one of the best stamped receiver pre-ban Ak Rifles.First the metal is Blued and the wood fit and finish is great too.The best feature to the Poly tech rifle is the spring loaded firing pin that in theory prevents slam fires as aposed to the Floating ones found in others like Norinco that if fouled and stuck could bust a primer when you release the bolt to sent one into batery. If you want the Best of the poly tech made AK's look for the "Legend series" these have a MILLED receiver and Beautiful Dark red wood, These will run about $250-$350 more than the AKS-762. worth a look IMHO[;)]

Their AKs and AKMs are considered better than Norincos by some.
The machined receiver model is heavier.
I dont believe Norinco sold any machined receiver models here.
I have had no problems with Norincos in either caliber except that some came out of the plastic with scuffing on the buttplates.

I have a Polytech Legend Heavy barrel (called the "National Match") and a B-West folder built around a Polytech parts set (as built by B-West, but I had the receiver heat treated). I will try to be objective. Don't buy one, the mor ebuyers there are just drives the prices up for the rest of us.

These are considered by many to be the most authentic of the AK47 style rifles, the most "true to form". But to be an AK fan you have to understand that they were built in third world countries and their beauty isn't found in superior machine work or fine wood. I have never really understood those who rave about chicom wood, when compared to finer European or American rifles. The Polytech Legend's receivers have very rough machine work when compared to many other rifles. But to me, much of the beauty is in the cheapness that was engineered into them. They are beautifully reliable, reasonably accurate, and most probably the most realistic AK a person can buy.

But don't trust me, I only own two, and am looking for a third. I think you should pass on it, and let someone else buy it.

To err is human, to moo is bovine.
