Could someone look at this and tell me if they are the original grips? I've never seen a Python without the checkered grips.

sir, those are original grips with the checkering removed,{ in my opinion} the screw should be countersunk more, the buldge at the medallion is also a clue,looks like it was nicely done.to the best of my knowledge there are 3 varity of python target grips, the early full checkered, the 2nd later type{also called early} where the checkering at the top has a curve around medallion{thats what looks like on this gun} and the last where the checkering at the top has a strait diagonal line. hope this helps dux 0 -
As a non-expert....I'm going to guess that they started out as factory checkered grips and were sanded down. The bottoms look rounded off too.
The first Pythons had checkering all the way up to the medallion, then were switched to the more common style.
Once in a while you'll come across some smooth grips with custom shop medallions, but they're usually rosewood.0
