Best out of the box 1911 style target .45 acp
I would be interested in some opinions about the best make of 1911 style .45 acp target pistols that shoot well right out of the box. If it needs a bunch of work than you might as well go ahead and get a custom piece. I wouldn't want to spend much more than $1500. Long slide or 5" barrel would be OK.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Both Kimber and Springfield fall into the price range you've quoted. Suggest you stay away from Dan Wesson line of 1911's as I know 3 guys that have bought 'em and all 3 have had problems.
On a slightly lower price scale there is Charles Daly and I think they are worth you looking into. They are well made and a pretty good value to boot.

IMHO the Les Baer (even in the lower grades) is the best production 1911 currently on the market even surpassing my much revered Colts or the much vaunted Kimbers. Further, the Daly models seem to be pretty much a crap shoot, you might get one made from good steel, might not. They put more emphasis on finish than on consistant manufacturing quality. I own one of the very early production Dan Wesson Commander size pistols (Guardian Duce) and have been very impressed with it. The quality has been top notch with quality components. I am sorry to hear that they now have problems.

I pickup up a Springfield with a bit of factory tune-up NIB for less than half of your 1500 bucks. After about 700 rounds it is the best shooting 1911 I have ever shot, much less owned. Maybe I just got a sweet 'wednesday' gun. I would certainly recommend starting with a decent platform. You can move up until YOU stop seeing improvements in your shooting. If your budget is 1500, you could sell a piece if you did not like it and start over. My bro in law (previously posted) is a great guy. He has a really nice Colt he spent about $1200 on. Only problem is he shot just as well using my 'parts' gun.

I'll 2nd the Les Baer. Wilson would be the second choice. 0 -
give me the 1500.00 and i will give you the best gun out of the box for match shooting and use all milpsec parts to do it. what kind of box would you like? a shoe box or an old ups box? it'll out shoot any of the aformentioned guns and i'd have money left over to take my wife on a small vacation.

I have a Les Baer Premier II and I believe it is about what you want. They are about $1495 right now. I have other 1911's, Kimber,Springfield, Colt Gold Cup,etc and the Baer is the best for the money. 0 -
might want to look into the new SigArms 1911. retails for $1,077, in the new issue of G&A it did 1 1/4 groups at 25yds. And through in Sig's reputation of "out of the box" accuracy and I'd say it's what you are looking for.
