New England firearms handi-rifle 45-70 cal

I just bought a New England firearms handi-rifle 45-70 for 200.00 and was wanting to know if their is any thing I should know before I shoot it. And is Buffalo bore ok to use? And what kind of recoil should I expect?

  If it dosen't say in the manual if "buffalo bore" ammo is ok to use, then you might consider asking the mfg.

  I do not think you would want to shoot heavy loads in it. The gun may be strong enough but, your shoulder won't like it. Trap door loads are good starting point. I did some heavy loads when I got mine. Now shoot light bullets and loads. Have fun.
