Because there is historical aspect to Newton guns, my feeling is that this collection with all the attendant paperwork may
be worth more as a collection. It needs to be appraised by an expert.
I would contact the top national auction houses for their advice. They publish catalogs giving international exposure for their offerings.
Collectors and investors come from all over the world to buy US collectible firearms at auction.

Thank you for the advice... In my grandfather's wishes, he had mentioned a few auction houses, but I think they were local. Are there any popular one's with a WEB presence?

    Jenninbe...

Little John's (John Gangel), Rock Island, Greg Martin, Butterfields, James Julia are the top auction houses in the country, and each has a website.

Here's one of the most prestigious ones. Your Grandfathers collection, would have international exposure and probably the best opportunity for maximun return, if handled by these folks.

    thanks for the advice v35...

actually, I'm trying to find out the true value of this collection from people that really KNOW guns. My father (Bruce M III) KNEW them and my grandfather (Bruce M Jr) KNEW what he thought they were worth. Both men have since passed on, and now my relatives have almost decided on a place (in NY) to sell it for $100,000...

a very good friend of my father's (and gun expert) has valued this collection (with accessories) at over $200k, so that's why I'm doing my research...

I really appreciate all the help and advice that all of you have to offer.

I think you're making a big mistake. I had hoped you would have at least inventoried what you have with all paperwork and contacted Butterfields' experts. Doing it the quick and dirty way will lose the estate serious dollars. Do your relatives really need the money instantly?
This important collection properly belongs in the NRA Museum where any visitor can enjoy seeing them. They would be preserved as a collection and not dissipated by the next set of heirs.
If you're going to essentially give it away, please contact the NRA and offer it to them for the $100,000.
It irks me to be asked advice on what to do only to find they have already taken the wrong path.

I'm confused... Quick and Dirty way?? I don't have the paperwork on the inventory, but we DO have a list of all that is included. And who is to say that I haven't contacted Butterfield's? I said previously that I emailed them.
This thread was not intended to be a gripe session, so I won't continue..

My objective of visiting this website and asking my questions is to GATHER information (some call is RESEARCH). You (v35) and others have offered valuable advice and I appreciate it. I for one am not in dire need of the few bucks that would be entitled to me from the sale of such a collection....

My father was to be the sole beneficiary of this collection. The days before his death, he was asking ME to take over the collection after he was gone. He said that if I didn't want it, then it was to be kept "as a collection" and sold to a museum so that all could admire it... However, others (including my grandfather) had decided that it would be best to change the beneficiary (after my dad passed) and sell it to an auction house. The money from this sale would be disbursed to the rest of the family. My grandfather soon passed away and my relatives have taken the reigns.

Please sir, DO NOT lecture me about what "should" or "should not" be done with this collection, as I completely agree with it ending up in a museum (my father's wishes). After all, I am still researching have NOT taken the "wrong path" yet.... that's what this forum is all about... Asking the EXPERTS
