riverside arms 12 gauge pump
My 12 y o son is interested in finding out more about the origin of his grandaddy's 12 gauge pump. It is a Riverside Arms model 520. His grandaddy bought it second hand while he was a duck hunting guide in north Mississippi before he went overseas for WWII; Grandaddy passed away in 1980, almost 12 years before my son was born.
What can anyone tell us about the history of the company, etc?
He is also getting very interested in the history of weapons related to the civil war; he marched in the governor's inaugural parade and is getting started in re-enacting.
Thank you for your patience and any info you can offer.

Riverside was the store brand for Montgomery Wards like JC Higgins was for Sears.I think they were made by Stevens, but that's just my WAG

Riverside Arms Company was a trade name used by the J. Stevens Arms Co.
I would imagine that your shotgun would be virtually identical to the Stevens Model 520 pump, other then the name.
Tell your boy, that his Grand Dad's shotgun has a lot of history behind it. It was designed by John Browning the greatest American Gun Designer, in the early 1900's. It was made over a long period of time, by both Stevens and Savage when the bought Stevens. Quite a number were manufactured as late as World War II and were used as Military shotguns.
