    Joey is correct.

What men call a hero...is merely a man who is seen doing what a brave man does as a matter of course.
A man who is in love with learning is a man who is never without a bride, for there is always more. L'Amour

Don't know if this is relevant to the Les Baer pistols, but years back I had a Springfield Armory ( Illinois ) 1911 that had a "NM" prefix to the serial number.

The pistol was NOT marked, "Made in Brazil".

I bought the pistol new in the box, and assumed the "NM" denoted National Match. I latter learned that "NM" stood for "New Model".

vf, ask Mark Christian. I have been told that in the case of M1's it means New Model. Whether that's correct or not I don't know for certain. It might mean National Match on that slide, and a lot of folks think that it means National Match everywhere they see it.
If you see this, what do you say , Mark??

On M1's any part with a NM denotes National Match and it adds a premium to the value of the part. Barrels and op rods with NM marking are at a particular premium. Beach

[:D]Well, originally, National Match parts were either specially manufactured to tighter tolerences, like the NM 1911 barrel bushing which was oversized and required custom honing to an individual barrel for a tight fit, or they were selected for being dead on to specifications like a NM .45 barrel's bore size and finish; or the term applied to a rifle that had been gone through by military armorers and accurized with glass bedding and other little tricks for competition. I think I could dig around and turn up one or two so-marked vintage weapons. BUT--since this was supposed to represent the apex of accuracy, the term was adoped by firearms companies wishing to capatilize on the reputation of such weapons and put into use by them on their products and parts. So, I would have to say that today the term and marking has become a little generic and means, "a firearm expected to deliver match-grade accuracy" or "designed for target use". Advertising. Of course, the secret that we haven't let you folks in Bangladesh in on, is that on this forum the term "NM" has been changed to mean, "Neal Myers".[:D]

hehehe. cute! great answer! im sure many will appreciate your input. afterall, thats what this site is all about! sad how people use NM just to sell. case in point, since NM is suppose to be an upgrade, companies dont need to put NM on their new parts if it was fitted from the factory. it would have been better for them not to put NM on their parts. people would learn to 'know' their guns to be NM quality without the NM mod being advertised. im talking of course of all the guns that are assembled with NM on them. the scam is their product could be passed off as NM with no proof it was matched at all. follow me? i can see putting NM on spare parts, but it wouldnt be nessessary for guns assembled on assy line unless it was requested. so in closing, im left to believe there are a lot of gun companies selling NIB guns with NM on them that arent NM!(i/e: numerous imports.) regards to all! now excuse me, its time for morning prayers. i gotta go bong the bell....[:D]
