Another dumb question
Anybody explain what the difference in the Remington Model 700 terms BDL vs ADL? I realize one is spruced up and the other a plainjane, but what do the letters signify?

Okay, need somebody who knows to answer this one, should be pretty easy. Bought a new Armalite ar10 a couple of weeks ago, it did not come with a manual, so I called Armalite, received the manual two days ago (thanks Armalite). One thing I was wondering about is not covered in the manual. Took the gun apart to clean, but I'm wondering about the flash suppressor at the end of the barrel. I KNOW it doesn't need to be cleaned, I'm basically just curious as to whether it can come off or not. It looks like it's meant to come off, as it has a place machined on the surface that looks like it's meant to put a wrench on. I tried (gently) to remove it, but it won't come off. I would think that there should be some threads down there where it attaches so that I could put a different muzzle brake or something on it. I know this is a dumb question. This is my first high capacity semi auto rifle, so gimme a break................ 0 -
Not a dumb question at all. This goes back to the late 1940's and early 1950's and the Remington Model 721,722 and 725. The A models were the plane jane models while the B models were the fancy ones. When Remington brought out the Model 700 in 1973(I think that is the right year), they simply added the letters DL to the designation. Some say that the DL stands for "Deluxe", but, I don't know if that is true or not. 0 -
ADL referred to as Deluxe and BDL as Custom Deluxe, all other things being equal the tangible difference is $100-125+ difference in price.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
To me the main difference in teh base models is the ADL has to have the cartridges inserted and removed from above. The BDL has the drop down floor plate so you can unload it from the bottom. That is how I remember it. ADL for above, BDL for below.

Madman, To elaborate a little further, the ADL-BDL suffix was used on Remington rim-fires as well. I have an older (circa 1977) Remington .22 semi-automatic rifle, 552BDL - just a little nicer wood, finish, sights. 0 -
Hey guys, Thanks for the enlightenment. Always good to discuss things with the gun crowd as we answer our brothers. I go away a little more educated...

There's no such thing as a "dumb" question. If you need an answer and don't bother asking the question - that's dumb.. Best Wishes [:D] 0 -
No such thing as a dumb question, amigo; the dumb ones are those not asked.
Scout: the Model 700 came out 1963/4 or thereabouts.

The ADL has a Solid Stock and No Floor Plate...To Unload You have to rack the Bolt until unloaded...
The BDL has a Mauser Style Floor Plate...To unload use a cartridge and push the Button in the Floor Plate to release same and the cartridges will come out the Bottom....Much safer....
