Ithaca Model 37 12 ga. Vent Rib
Hello,
I bought this gun in '78 or '79 and used it for hunting very little, probably only 15 boxes of shells through it. One day I picked it up and noticed a bulge in the end of the barrel about 2" back. My question is, How do I price this for sale? Should I put a new barrel on it? How much and where would I find one? I'd rather not bother. I would use it with confidence but I understand that someone else may not. Thanks!

Snow or mud block at the muzzle. The gun probably isn't dangerous to shoot, but there's been way too much stress on the tube to continue.
Suck it up and buy a replacement tube.

you could always have it cut and choke tubes installed. 0 -
Don't worry about strength Have the barrel cut to the longest
you can (dont forget it has to have a rib support at the end).
Install choke tubes as recommended by icedux. Your bulge is at a rib support. To cut it at the next rib support would mean you would lose four inches.
A good gunsmith can cut just before the bulge and make up a new rib support. Assuming it's a 26" barrel, you might end up with 23 to 23 1/2" of barrel left. The Ithaca Turkey Slayer has a 22" barrel with extended, ported choke. You could use Ithaca chokes or contact Colonial Arms Co PO Box 636 Selma, Alabama
36702. They make a wide world of chokes and thin barrel chokes.
There is a gunsmith in Ashland, Va who specializes in installing choke tubes. He did one for me on an 1100 lightweight 20.0
