  Believe it's a French Military Holster Pistol.
  
  Since it uses a front action lock I would date it to the 1830's.
  
  Believe the inscription on the lock, would be "Manlfre de Chatellerault".

  It is indeed French, I'm not exactly sure which model, although these were stamped on the gun- usually on the breech end of the barrel.
  A fair condition specimen- I'd guess $600-700 or so...

  I have its Sister in My Cabinet..Made 1830/50..CHANTICLER trade name of Mre. d'Armes des Pyrenees, France..Horse Pistol made to fit Holster mounted on Saddle..Usually came in a Brace {TWO} one on either side of Saddle....Your's don't look any better or worse than mine...Value is $500.00/700.00 on a Good day....
