agree w/ Lee, but why not try and pick up a Ruger at $400 +/- or one of the Marlin Camp 9's which sell in the $250-350 range at gun shows.
I've got no bone to pick w/ Kel-Tec but after handling and firing one I didn't think it would hold up to much in the way of use, and there does seem to be a number of them in the used market and as gun shop trade-ins, so that may support my impression of them.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
