Interesting for sure. Can't say I've seen anything like it.
It's not in any of my books.I'd bet someone here can help though.
If you like it,go on and bid your max on it.My gut tells me it won't
make the reserve.
Good Luck,

Wrong war!, It's a Werder pistol, that dates to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
The Bavarian Army, ( not sure if they were involved in the F-P War) was armed with a rifle using this action during this time frame. (1869 - 1882)
Don't know if this was made from a cut down rifle action? Doubt if Werder pistols are common.

Werder pistols have nothing in common with the rifles except the action design.
It is sometimes called the "Bavarian lightning pistol".
They are quite scarce- especially nice specimens- as few were made to begin with and they saw heavy useage all the way thru WW-II. Many were destroyed also.
Most information I have seen indicates the Bavarian army was armed with the Lindner rifle; which is a bolt action paper cartridge breech loader fired by a percusssion cap- the Werder didn't actually enter service until after the war was over.
I have seen only a couple decent ones [Werder pistols] in 40 years of gun collecting.
The last nice one I looked at had a $1200 price tag on it, and it didn't stay in the shop very long.

Been awhile since I've seen one of these..
Austrian Werder Lightning Pistol, 11mm, 8" Barrel. This arm was made as a companion design for the Werder rifle..Value is probably in excess of the $1200.00 listed by another poster...Possibly upwards of $1500.00.....to as far as 2K.....
