Another gun safe question
A local dealer is having a truck load sell on an American Security fire safes.
This model holds up to eleven rifles and is selling for $389.00.
Does anyone out there know anything about this type of safe and is this a good price or for that matter a good safe??

Key in 'american security safe' in the search entry on your browser. It should bring back 7-8 websites for this company. May give you some insight into their product. 0 -
I just found that model on a website.
It appears to be only 275 lbs in weight and offers "a degree" in fire safety.
Whatever that is.
I will check it out but i was really hoping for a safe that weighs closer to 400 pounds.
However money is tight at the moment.

How many Cubic Feet is it?

start thinking about guns I'd like to own.0 -
11 gun safe is really small. But if it fits your needs it may just work for you. If they say 11 guns figure that you will actually only get about 2/3(7-8 guns) of that unless all you have is single shot shotguns. Small safes are nice easy to store. However most times you will out grow them. 0 -
I think i will pass on this safe and just wait a little longer.
As ChumChum mentioned i will just grow out of it.
Green Lantern...Not sure of the cubic feet but i think it's only 15.5" wide. They advertise it as being suitable for a closet.
Also the fact that it only weighs 275 pounds and is not that well suited in the fireproofing turns me off.
It appears now i will be spending closer to 6-750.00 on a decent safe.
Hurry up Uncle Sammy and send me my excess tax money you are hoarding.

TexasHunter,
Whatever safe you end up buying, make sure that you don't depend on the weight to deter thieves. Bolt that sucka' to the foundation!0 -
definetly bolt it know mater and make ck on home owner ins. fire protect is only good for so long of time. 0 -
Sams club usually carries a decent safe in that price range. Sometimes they say Remington and sometimes they say Winchester on them. I guess it depends what batch the safe maker is running when they make the deal. 0 -
QUOTE:They advertise it as being suitable for a closet
ya! only suitable for blocking out a closet ,pi$$ing the wife off ,then yourself when you try to open the door all the way,and in the dark
yep its me ,same one for 4 years now0 -
glad you passed on it ... for the money it's not a good value.
As you look at safes, weight is important for a couple reasons, one is theft (you bolt it down) the other is installing it in your home (delivery and setup charges).
Secondly, compare the UL fire ratings and decide how important fire rating is over theft or if they are equally important.
Next check the papers and swap/sale pubs in your area, you may get a very good bargain at an estate sale, or even a company going out of business.
Finally, check the phone book and see if there are any companies that deal in used safes.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
