converting calibers
I've heard some pistols can be converted amongst calibers .357sig, .40S&W, and 10mm with just a barrel change. Glock and Witness pistols were the pistols I was told were easy conversions. Is there more to it than just a barrel (and magazine) change? Do other pistols convert amongst these calibers?

Most 1911 styled guns can be swapped, but most of the time it takes gunsmith work.
With a Glock "wide-body" (models 20 & 29) they can be swapped from 10mm to .40 S&W or .357 SIG by simply swapping barrels (just drop it in) and using the correct magazine. The 20/29 can also be converted to .45 ACP, but it takes the whole top (slide, barrel, etc). Conversely, the models 21 and 30 can be modified to shoot the 10mm (and also the ones that the 10mm can shoot) by doing the whole slide, barrel routine.
The smaller Glocks (9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W) cannot be safely converted to use the .45 or the more powerful 10mm that I'm aware of.
*simple rule with Glocks, get a 10mm and then you'll be able to shoot 3 calibers easily, 4 if you add a slide/barrel to shoot .45 acp*
The Witness series has some "rules" about what can be swapped with what, that info is available on their site (http://www.eaacorp.com/parts/slides/conversions.shtml) and theirs has a more widely available choice of calibers (and it includes a factory .22lr kit)
If you're into revolvers, many revolvers offer more than one cartridge capability. Since you specifically mentioned the 10mm and the .40 S&W, the S&W 610 revolver allows both of those to be fired through it.
Of course if we're talking cartridge swappability then I should bring up the TC contender or encores, but I assume you're talking a repeating arm not a single shot.0 -

Glad I could help... Anyone that mentions the 10mm (in a positive light) is a friend of mine! [:)]
Incidentally, I have my Glock 20 up for sale currently here on GB. I'm trying to get the smaller G29 for use with my new CCW permit. If you're interested: http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=153347390 -
with a 20 C can you use comped .40 and .357 barrels? Are non-comped barrels okay to use with the comp slide? Do aftermarket barrels in these calibers drop in also? What, if any, aftermarket barrels would you recomend? Mags for what glocks will fit in the 20? 0
