Colt Custom?
My Uncle has a Colt revolver, New Service, .45 Colt Cal. it has a set of Micro sights, rear adjustable, the puzzling thing to me is-it was NOT a target model revolver, it was a standard model New Service 7.5" barrel. my Uncle claims it was sent back to Colt in the late 40s early 50s to be converted, the gun has been re-blued and the sight installation is flawless, what got us talking was on the History Channel a few nights ago, I saw a police officer firing a revolver that was a duplicate of my Uncles.
Does anyone know if Colt did this alteration or was it farmed out to Micro? I am aware that quite a few Colt target model guns came equipped with Micro sights, I would love to know if Colt did this job, kind of renew my faith in my Uncles memory.

Colt was famous for "furnishing anything a Customer wanted.....for a price" during their successful years. However, many of these "works of art" went unknown except to those that "bought" them or had them "made" which was what eventually created the "Colt Custom Shop."
The only way to be sure of how a gun "left the factory" is to get a Colt "Historical Letter" as suggested by "260." Good Advice!
Any Model of the "New Service" revolver, even in some of the poorer grades command good prices so it would easily add to the value of the gun to have a "Factory Letter." Good Luck!

Gentlemen, I thank you for your input, I shall take your advice. 0 -
I did not see the History Channel broadcast so I do not know what you saw. Was the picture of the History Channel gun in use an old one, or a current one?
I would speculate that the History Channel gun was a factory Colt target revovler, either an Officers Model, a New Service Target or a Shooting Master. It is hard to tell the two frame sizes apart in a small picture of a gun in use.
I cannot imagine Colt installing Micro-Sights on anything. If an adjustable sight were installed by Colt, I would have exptected a Colt factory sight, not an aftermarket sight brand like Micro-Sight. I do not believe any Colts ever left the factory with "Micro-Sights." Stevens, Acco and Elliason are the only non-Colt-brand sights of which I am aware that have been used on Colts, but they were all factory-installed options or standard.
260 suggests a factory letter and states the cost is "nominal." That is a relative term. The cost of a factory letter is $75 to $100, depending on model searched. Some think that is not "nominal," especially when a Smith & Wesson letter is only $35.0
